Should the format of Indian Idol need to be changed?

After five months of hard work, music and fun, finally the wait for next Indian Idol came to an end and the title of Indian Idol 3 was bagged by the Sepoi Prashant Tamang. But it has raised a question that "Should the format of Indian Idol need to be changed?" among most of the viewers.
The procedure for the selection of an Indian Idol is similar to the selection of American Idol in the United States. I truly feel that the Idol format is not working in our country. In US where the Idol movement started, the majority of the people talk the same language, share the same food habit and mostly belong to the same religion. Their voting pattern to some extent are unbiased, but look what is happening in India. Indians are voting in favor of their state, religion completely overlooking the talent of the participants.
It is also important that SET publish all relevant information regarding voting, especially when tens of millions of people paid to cast their votes. The declaration should include a complete breakdown of the vote distribution by state and region, along with a complete listing (location, date, IP address etc.) of the single sources of votes exceeding 1,000. This disclosure would make the system transparent and would increase the public confidence in future high-profile contests
like these. At this time, I am interested in knowing how many of those seven crore votes actually originated from the sepoys of the police forces and the jawans of the armed services and how many from the rest of the voters!!

In my opinion Amit Paul deserves to be Indion Idol with many reasons. His diction, voice quality, Sur and pitch is much better than Prashant.
Every body was waitng to see Amit as an Idiol but thats really bad with him .
He is really a deserving contestent

DEAR ALL,
YES I DO FEEL THERE IS A NEED FOR CHANGE THE INDIAN IDOL IS PICK....THERE SHOULD BE POINTS FROM THE GOOD PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE GOOD JUDGES...
BUT ONE THING MY DEAR FRENS PRASHANT DESERVES TO BE THE INDIAN IDOL FROM THE VERY BEGINNING...THE WAY HE SINGS IS AMAZING...HIS VOICE IS MUCH MUCH SOOTHING AND IN HIS VOICE LIES THE ORIGINALITY AND SIMPLICITY...PRASHANT SINGS FROM THE HEART WHILE EQUALLY TALENTED AMIT SINGS FROM THE THROAT....SO IT IS THE PRASHANT'S HEART WHO WON OVER THE OTHER HEART...THUS PRASHANT IS A TRUE INDIAN IDOL...

If there is a need to change the format it should be ...What so ever Prashant Tamang has been crowned the Indian Idol. People have there own choice and they have voted according to there chioce so theres no use cribbing that Amit was a deserving one ......Prashant Tamang deserves the most and thats why he has won....

I Don't think that format should be changed BECAUSE
INDIAN IDOL MEANS AN IDOL "FOR THE PUBLIC","BY THE PUBLIC"
So Indian JANTA has full rights to choose thier right one, as they did
PRASHANT IS A TRUE INDIAN IDOL

miss ujala how can u say that PRashant was not deserving??how much do u have musik sense???
i think ur sense of judgement is very poor cuz u think ankita to b the idol??
its quite funny, ankita fits for itom songs performer n thats all..
we can just laugh on ur condition cuz u r not admitting the truth that Prashant won by the recorded history..BE A TRUTH LOVER

Hey all you people fighting!! Just stop fighting!! what's this? indian idol is a hunt & platform for talented people! if you have the talent, come up and show!! instead of fighting, why don't you particiapate in talent hunts? why don't u participate like the indian idol contestants did & even join other such shows??? Not only u get singing, but there are dancing, comedy, acting and what not!! the ground is open for you!!! u have the chance, just grab it like prashant, amit and others !! amit and prashant are the best of friends!! let me even inform u that all nepalis do not have mongoloid features. Outer appearance does not matter..what does is the innner heart!! You must have missed with CHAK DE!! Did u notice there are 2 north east indian girls who are the part of indian team?? even bollywood has many nepali actors and singers.... & even Amit Paul is from the north east town Shillong itself!! Does looks matter so much?? Bhaichung Bhutia is a Bhutia-Nepali origin, and he is the captain of INDIAN FOOTBALL TEAM!! He has represented India so many times, but did he ever say "I'M A BHUTIA-NEPALI??" He always said, "I'M INDIAN". Did u have any problem then??? We Indian born Nepalis are proud Indians. We are always.... But not u Indian Born Indians!! If India would have lost the cricket match today, u all would burn their effigies and posters... but u'll not count the victories they have earned in the past!! why this injustice?
Prashant's father was a sepoy too.His father had breathed his last while serving for Indian police in an accident related to the same. Prashant, who was still in school at that time, had to leave school and join Indian Police Force to support his family. I don't understand why you people have to call him POOR AND FROM MINORITY CLASS?? He is a hero not only because he won the INDIAN IDOL, but because at a tender age he had to leave school and support his only grand mother, mother and sister! Had it been you, you would have commited suicide!!! He has already been through alot, let he and his family rejoice the victory. May be this winning is a blessing in disguise by God's grace! If you are not yet content, keep reading my blogs!! Let's all act like INDIANS! TRUE INDIANS!!

Hey Ujala and rest of the people who is not happy that Prashant has become the Indian Idol. Indian Idol 3 is over so pls stop the crap...You need to except the fact that Prashant Tamang is our Indian Idol. If you all were so crazy that Amit and Ankita should have won you all had rights to vote... You could have flooded with them with votes rather than talking now...."Prevent and Prepare rather than Repent and Repair..."

hey Op, the Idol format was started in the UK, and also, I don't think they will change the format just for the India. There is nothing wrong with the format, but there is certainly something wrong with the Indian people, they take everything so seriously. Just chill, this is just a TV show, enjoy and relax, it's entertainment, no one is dying.

Indians are just too emotional, he won by the most votes, so he is the Indian Idol. You can dissent all you want, but the fact is, this is the most democratic and fair way you can crown someone.

You all need to become less emotional and more logical. Look at all the contestants, they represent what good is. They do not seem resentful, and Amit and Prashant are both friends, so they will have lots of success in their lives. Even if neither of them won, they would still have success simply by being on the show.

The very title "Should the format of Indian Idol need to be changed?" doesn't seem right and seems somewhat racial. I will tell you why? Why were such questions not asked when Abhijit Sawant got the title when the runners up was a better singer? Why were these questions not asked when Sandip Acharya became the Indian Idol? Its being asked now, because, people are feeling disgusted knowing that a chinky face has become the Indian Idol. What if he is chinky - don't you realize that Prashant is all in all Indian by all means. See the comments, ujala commented that Prashant is not an Indian and how come he has won the Indian Idol title, well such ignorance has to be clarified.

Prashant was lacking before but he proved himself that he could sing better than Amit and he did. His voice's got melody greater than that of amit. Forgetting lyrics is not a good sign for a singer. It was a competition and once you make a mistake in the most crucial moment, you should definitely be out by all means and that is what happened.

Although, Amit is a nice guy, Prashant was the deserving one when compared to family background and singing quality. Amit is from the business class and no one depends on his earning, but look at Prashant, his whole family depends on him.

Prashant is the most eligible Indian Idol I have ever seen.

i also belive Amith should have win this titel.... Paeshant is better than Sundeep, but still no use in bollywood. its not like these title do any good except fame and name, but the show became more like a reginol contest than music contest..

when you comment on who supposed to win Indian Idol 3, please also look back Indian Idol 2. The singing quality, voice etc. etc are lot more difference from two finalist in idol 2. N. C. Karunya supposed to win in Idol 2 wasn't it??

hi,
peop;e whp r nt agree with me and"Angry"wuth me be attentive plz someone says that parshant'family depends upon parshant this is not a profession it is only a cometition u r nt here to earn money parshant is from poor background that's why hi is indioidol and amit is from strong background so he is neglected.I want to ask question to judges that what are they doing u r only wasting ur time means ur comments have no piwer to cnvnc the people so plz don't waste ur time anu malik 4 times says that "amit u will be indionidol"but we can see the result.

Hey Ujala, Pls stop it now....fine u dont agree that Prashant Tamang has won the contest...theres nothing much u can do now, he has won so thats the reality...why cant u except the fact man..... U can have your choice of Indian Idol and your choice of Judges next time...Indian Idol 3 is over so pls just put a stop to it....And pls one more thing Prashant is a true Indian....

medarsm said...

hey all,
let me tell u that prashant is not from a poor background! He has a rich heritage! if he would not be a good singer, he would have not got through the audition round itself, where the selection was done by single performance and by the sole judges...mind u, not by votes or sms. Even in the piano round there was no voting system...still he got through as per his performance. Amit does not come from a rich background. He looks much better than prashant and is a hard core singer.. Infact Amit had more fans and even the judges' support than did prashant. Under what context can u defend saying "prashant is poor and so he won??" i can see no link in he being poor and winning... the statement is simply baseless. he comes from a middle class family, and he won the hearts of a million because of his simplicity, his gutts to participate in the INDIAN IDOL CONTEST, even after looking so different from the rest of the participants..(thanks even CHANG was there, who proved that looks and background doesn't matter!!)... and the fact was that Prashant had a rare voice, which won many hearts!! There is no rich or poor in this world.. We come empty handed into this world, earn and spend it likewise, and leave this world the same way as we had come. Spread love and respect each other's differences.. this is the only way we can move forward in society and make Mother India proud of us!

Hello All,

I quickly read the comments from some folks. What looks like here, is, we are discussing on who should have become the Idol or who should have not in the recent contest and in that emotion probably we lost the real topic of what should be the real format of the indian idol. This is purely an reaction to what happened, and that's not what we should do. we should give opinions on how to change it for, better! If someone comes across this, may be the format will be affected.

If you ask my personal opinion, my suggestion would be to have a process which can find a person who can really and truly be an 'idol' to the rest of the Indian society. We don't want probably the best singers, or best looking people or a particular gender, we want someone whom we can represent as a true Indian Idol. Aam Janata vote many times, as Mr. Akhtar says, goes with looks or presentation. Also, the person Of course must be of Indian Origin regardless of the place of stay. And besides just singing, we should cover up many other factors. After all, not all Indians can sing well. For Aam Janata, this is very difficult to understand and digest and I also agree Judges too become biased many times towards one or the other participant.

Aam Janata's votes are making money for few companies and not the idol and I believe they are too high than 1 CR rupees. We got to understand that.

Now, coming back to Idol III, My gut feeling for Prashant told me, he was going to be on the top if not the winner since he sings from heart and he is sincere at what he is doing(we Indian are really). Amit, having a dashing personality and great voice, was also one of my favorite. But, my other favorites were Dipali who sang really well.

And we don't know the "real" idols who did not even show their face to us since they did not pass the first test. Big Kudos to those tears and people who could not make to the journey. There are many stories we don't know.

So, What needs to be done?
==========================

thinking of which, I guess Miss Universe or the Miss World pageant has a lot of process potential here. The participant's capacity and real beauty is not just physical looks. Emotional intelligence, look and thoughts towards society and culture and many other things are counted before some one is crowned Ms. Universe or world. Of course, that vote is not Janata's vote.

CONCLUSION:
===========

Same ought to happen for Indian Idol one day, and it needs to be a separate organization running this contest, which would be funded by many organizations willing to. they can have a contract with the indian idol as their ambassador for a short amount of time. And that would really be a fantastic thing for any one interested here.

thank you for reading.

Idol means a person he/she is represnting the echo of whole society....for indian idol he/she is representing whole india as a personality of having something more special in professional life with cool dressing, perfection, accuracy and patience in singing a song or performing duty...so even janata has to be very careful in selecting a person...
...DON"T BE EMOTIONAL...
So instead of janata is selecting a person, this organisation should make one group of really a standardised persons whom we believe an Idol of india rightnow.. and after that they will select the future idol of india....

Dear All,
Iam ashamed to see that some of our indian brethren are not ready to accept that a chinky nepali should be an idian idol. But we are proud to have Prashant Bhai as the Indian Idol 3. He really deserves.

Indian Idol is very good program to elevate indian talents. It should also plan for kids at international level. likewise SaRaGaMaa is about to stage a show for kids at international level. "Little champs International". Please think about organising a show for kids also.
Thanks

i agree that the format should be changed...someone rightly commented that indians r too emotional...

& please people do not take things so seriously..at the end of the day it is just entertainment...moreover people should realise that it doesnt matter who won...
a media channel cashed in on the sentiments of Nepali & north-east indians and made crores….do u really think sony wanted one particular participant to win?? (& therefore this winning is a victory for u??)
please!!! if they WANTED it he wud have won…they can easily declare whomver they want the winner….how do u or i know that the voting system ( & the results) are fair??? they dont even disclose who won by how much….
its all a publicity gimmick,…end mein twist hona zaroori hai…so obviously they made it seem like amit will win thoroughout the series and made prashanth win in the end…( simiar things happened on both previous seasons-1 & 2 where in the better singer was the runner up)
in the end it doesnt matter who won coz its all dirty politics…NOT of nations…but of a media channel…the only winner here is SONY...

the really sad thing is all that money that the channel made, could have been so helpful in helping the poor in both countires….
the smart people who SEE THROUGH all this dont bother voting…only emotional fools bother to vote not once but 100s of times…
when will people realise all this???

GET A LIFE PEOPLE & SPEND YOUR MONEY ON BETTER CAUSES!!

Indian Idol is a reality talent hunt show which has its unique respect. However, we all as Indian Citizens have the right to express our views, for or against the selection or elimination, whatever we say.
I personally feel, Indian Idol selection surely needs a change. Verdict should be shared with Judges' as well just like STAR VOI - Chhote Ustaad. This is just to keep the Best Talents on stage till the end of the show.
According to me, Emon should have been crowned the Indian Idol with Deepali as the runner up.
